For synthetic carpet only. Do NOT use on wool or other natural fibers.
We recommend “Urine Off” – it is the only consumer product with enough enzymes for effective odor removal - do NOT substitute with other products available.
Procedure:
- Purchase Urine Finder (uv blacklight)
- Purchase Urine Off
- Follow Urine Off instructions
- After the odor has been removed and after at least 72 hours of dwell time since last treatment, the carpets should be professionally steam cleaned to remove the residue from the Urine Off.
Tips:
- The urine contamination should be treated with approx the same amount or slightly more “urine off” than the animal would release. The goal is to have the “urine off” contact all urine contamination.
- The areas should take at least 24 hours to dry if an adequate amount of “urine off” was used. Do NOT blot the area dry - the longer the enzyme stays wet the more effective it is.
- Typically 72 hours dwell time before steam cleaning is ideal for most treatments but enzyme activity can continue for up to two weeks.
- Do not follow the last step in the “urine off” instructions.(After urine odor and stain are removed, remove residue by applying a small amount of water to the area and blotting up with paper towel. It is important to remove residue or the area may attract dirt) It is not adequate to remove the residue left from the enzyme. It should be professionally steam cleaned after at least 72 hours of dwell time to rinse and extract the residue from the carpet.
- It is common for urine to penetrate the pad if the animal has gone mulitple times in the same area or if the animal puts out a large volume of urine. To be considered large the animal is usually over 50lbs. If urine has penetrated the pad it should be injected with urine off or replaced.
IMPORTANT: Never use do-it-yourself carpet cleaners!
Do-it-yourself carpet cleaners leave soap residues in the carpet that accelerate wear and soiling. The soap residue easily cleans soil from shoes and oil from feet into the carpet. It then locks the soil/oils into the carpet like glue, making vacuuming and professional carpet cleaning less effective.
Eventually, it will cause permanent damage and often cannot be reversed by professional cleaning.
Please note the following:
- After odor treatment and carpet cleaning, the urine will still show up underneath the blacklight even if the odor and stain is gone under normal light – urine penetrates the dye sites of the carpet fibers and is permanent underneath the blacklight.
- As with any cleaning product, test in an inconspicuous area before using. Esteem Carpet Cleaning makes no warranty express or implied for the effectiveness of Urine Off or effectiveness of treatment., nor accepts responsibilty for any direct or consequential damage cause by urine off or treatment.
